Hildegard-Knef-Platz 2 and 3
10829 Berlin
Germany
Have a look at how the building will look like in 2022 in this 3D visualization.
In the meantime, enjoy our construction site tour!
On the north side, the 10,000 sqm site of EDGE Suedkreuz Berlin borders on Hildegard-Knef-Plaza – and extends the public square of ICE Südkreuz station with trees, green spaces and seating areas. The building ensemble consists of the 25,000 sqm “Carré” and “Solitär” with a floor area of 7,000 sqm.
The way inside EDGE Suedkreuz Berlin leads through the vestibule with a revolving drum door. The door leaves allow simultaneous passage from inside and outside – quiet, barrier- and draught-free. The separation system ensures safe and efficient access into the building.
This is where the heart of EDGE Suedkreuz Berlin beats: the spectacular atrium with its “trees” up to 26 metres high is not only the geographical centre of the building, but also the central place for meeting and communication, giving you the impression of a ,,3D,, experience. Walkways and stairs connect the floors. This is where people meet – either by chance or on purpose for a coffee on the furnished treetops.
The smart and self-cleaning ETFE (Ethylene Tetra Fluoro Ethylene) foil roof provides a light-flooded atrium. It consists of air-filled cushions with controllable sun protection; depending on the intensity of the sun, printed foils overlay each other to create a darkening effect. The roof construction is a combination of wooden trusses and steel tension rods.
The building with its office space is structurally and also visually characterised by the innovative and modular timber hybrid construction method: visible double supports made of glulam transfer the vertical forces of the building. The wooden beams also remain visible on the floor slabs made of wood-concrete composite elements.
Sensors are integrated into the smart heat-cooling ceilings that measure parameters such as light, temperature, CO2 and the occupancy of the rooms. Users can influence the room climate themselves via an individually controllable app.
The façade of EDGE Suedkreuz Berlin is not only architecturally but also technologically innovative: the solar protection is integrated directly into the glass; the metal mesh glued between the glass panes ensures effective protection against solar heat.
Whether at the Skybar or in the meeting boxes: with its open architecture, the Skylounge is one of the most popular meeting places at EDGE Suedkreuz Berlin. The light-flooded room extends over two floors and can be reached via the stairs and “trees” of the atrium.
Take a deep breath with a view and discover the neighbourhood; the Skylounge terrace offers an unobstructed view of Berlin landmarks such as the Fernsehturm or Potsdamer Platz as well as the immediate surroundings, with Südkreuz station and the EUREF Campus.
The roof area of EDGE Suedkreuz Berlin is optimally used; people working here can enjoy both the partially greened roof, which underlines the building’s high sustainability factor, and the two barrier-free accessible terraces. From there, you can observe the lively activity in the neighbourhood.
Via Sachsendamm on the south side of the building, numerous cyclists can reach the parking spaces for their (e-)bikes. The bikes are stored safely on the ground-level space with a pleasant atmosphere and visible wood hybrid construction.
192 parking spaces are available in the underground car park shared by the two building sections Carré and Solitär, most of which are arranged as a double parking system on two platforms above each other. These parking spaces are also fully e-mobility suitable – a real innovation.
EDGE Suedkreuz Berlin is heated by an in-house combined heat and power unit (CHP). Since the gas demand is covered by the procuring of biomethane, the supply of space heating and hot water is fossil-free. The house connections run along the west side of the building on Hedwig-Dohm-Straße.
